In 10 seconds? Scientists have perfected the technology that can extract water from the air… even in a desert. It uses a unique class of porous materials, called MOFs, capable of trapping water, potentially improving access to water for millions of people.

What problem will it solve? Water is of such vital importance that its scarcity can provoke conflicts. However, the 2018 edition of the World Water Development Report projected that more than half of the world will experience a water shortage in the future. According to UN estimates, by 2050 between 4.8-5.7 billion people could leave in areas, where water scarcity occurs at least once a month. So, MOF water harvesters could offer a potential solution.
