In 10 seconds? A new paper-based device can detect Covid-19 in less than 5 minutes, with almost 100% accuracy and sensitivity.

What is the device made of? Researchers have designed this new device that detects COVID-19 using electrochemical signals using two components. First, an electrochemical sensor was fabricated by coating a filter paper with the new wonder material, graphene. Then, gold nanoparticles linked with a genetic material, antisense oligonucleotide, or single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) that reacts with the RNA of the virus, were added to the top layer of the film. This technology gives the biosensor a very low detection limit, capable of picking up as low as 6.9 copies/µ of RNA and without the need of amplifying the RNA from the sample.
